If you caught a stolen car will you bring it back to the owner or try to catch the thieves with it ?
It depends entirely on the circumstances.
The first priority is public safety. If the stolen vehicle is being driven, police have to consider the danger created by trying to stop it, especially if the driver begins fleeing. Recovering a car is important, but it is not worth causing a serious collision or injuring an innocent person.
If the vehicle is found abandoned, police would normally secure it, confirm that it is stolen, examine it for evidence where appropriate, and arrange for the owner or insurance company to recover it.
If officers locate the vehicle while suspects are still using it, they may watch it temporarily and coordinate a safe arrest. That does not mean letting thieves continue driving around indefinitely. It means choosing the safest time, place and method to make the arrest.
So the goal is really both: recover the owner’s vehicle and identify the people responsible. Exactly how police do that depends on the immediate risk, the available evidence, the seriousness of the investigation and whether there is a safe opportunity to arrest the suspects.
